COMMENTS & OBSERVATIONS

After an early morning shower of rain we headed out in Horseshoe Bay again, but followed the northern rock wall out this dive. The critter count was very disappointing  with only one species found. Since we weren’t having much luck and the water was a bit chilly we headed back early for coffee.

Taxonomic data:
–

Historical Data:
– We have now completed 30 survey dives at Horseshoe Bay since our first survey here on 12/06/2018.
– We have recorded 69 species at this site.
– The species we record most often at this site are Gymnodoris sp. 35 (37% of dives), Elysia sp. 30 (30%), Samla bicolor (27%) and, Hypselodoris tryoni (27%).
– The most prevalent species we record here are Elysia sp. 30 (1.1 per dive), Elysia sp. 31 (0.8), Gymnodoris sp. 35 (0.7), and Samla bicolor (0.6).
– The single species recorded on this survey is our second most commonly recorded and most abundant species at this site.
– As can be seen from the graph, the last occasion on which we recorded only a single species during a survey at this site was a Niparaya sp. 06 on August 28, 2025. On that occasion only a single specimen was recorded as well, so this survey was slightly more productive by one measure.
– Our last survey at this site was on 24/05/2026.
