Haminoeid long-tail sp. 02
Author: Undescribed
Order: Cephalaspidea Family: Haminoeidae
Maximum Size: 4 mm
Sightings: Sunshine Coast
Name change: The results of the molecular sequencing by Oskars et al, 2019, (A molecular phylogeny of the gastropod family Haminoeidae sensu lato (Heterobranchia: Cephalaspidea): a generic revision), found that the mini-haminoeids belong to two separate taxa: “The mini-haminoeids were strongly supported ….., but their phylogenetic structure and anatomical features suggest that two evolutionary lineages are likely to be present, here referred as ‘long-tail haminoeids’ (Wilson 2007) and ‘otherids’ (Carlson and Hoff 2000b).” Also: “Because of the lack of formal species described that we could confidently associate with these clades, we here maintain the informal designations used by previous authors to refer to these snails (see Synonymy).”
We therefore have renamed this species in line with that paper’s format. (This species was previously listed by us as Haminoea sp. 12.)
