This species is similar to the sympatric Trapania brunnea but there are significant differences. The background colour is reddish-brown covered in numerous yellow spots rather than a uniform dark brown with sparsely scattered white spots and there is yellow in the white pigmented regions that Rudman (author of both species) states is never present in Trapania brunnea.
