COMMENTS & OBSERVATIONS

The trip over the Caloundra Bar saw us “porpoising” over a number of waves that, while they did not break, stood up and were quite close together. The passage between Bray’s Rock and Wickham Point was certainly in a confused state with waves travelling in all directions.

Once through however all settled down to a predicable nature. Rocky is a site that rises out of 21 m with a razor back ridge to 16 m on the southern face but drops in a number of steps on the northern face.

Terry explored a number of surrounding ridges and we decided to reel over to a quite large one on the second dive. Imagine our surprise when we realized we were on the back of the TJ’s Boulders site.

The Ardeadoris averni was an uncommon find and so too the Dermatobranchus sp. 6. The Hypselodoris variobranchia has us thinking that some of our earlier finds are not Hypselodoris apolegma, the condition of the mantle margin having almost imperceptible punctations rather than the striking reticulation as described by the author for that species, representations of which are in NSSI and our files from overseas sites – an ongoing investigation. What appears to be a new species of Thorunna, our Thorunna sp. 7 was discovered right on the edge of the razor-back.
